Wooded Isle Computer Consultants helped Marie Shilling purchase and set up a new 20-inch iMac G5 to help her explore mathematics, her retirement passion.

The Client
Marie Shilling is a retired elementary school teacher who has long used a Macintosh computer. And even though she's retired, she still enjoys exploring mathematics.

The Assignment
Marie had a Apple Cube that no longer had the capacity she needed. For writing about math and describing math problems, she uses two mathematics applications, MathType and Geometrics Sketchpad, which integrate with MS Word. On longer documents, the working requirements of these applications were greater than the capacity of her previous Macintosh computer. Marie called Wooded Isle Computer Consultants (WICC) and asked Charlie Havens to come to her home and assess what she needed.

The Solution
After reviewing the complexity and length of the documents that Ms. Shilling was creating and the number of pages that she needed to see at one time, we determined that a 20” G5 iMac with additional RAM would do the trick for her. With the Authorized Agent Apple Store, we were able to go online, look at and discuss the options available, and place the order. We made an appointment for me to return to her home to transfer the data and applications, test the working speed of her more complex documents, set up her peripheral devices, and explain any changes that she would need to make in order to use her new "toy."

The Benefits and Results
Because of observing what Ms. Shilling was trying to accomplish on the equipment that she had, I was able to better advise her about how to resolve the speed issues in a cost effective manner.
